A Baby-B is a personal supercomputer for executing MPICH enabled parallel programs on your desktop. Baby-B avoids many disadvantages of traditional shared supercomputer environments. It is the most convenient way to develop parallel MPI programs.
Baby-B is 4 compact computer cases and minimal networking equipment. Each case contains a quad core processor, 4 GB of fast RAM, a hard drive, video output equipment and 1Gb ethernet hardware. One case contains a much larger data capacity harddrive for storage of output and a DVD-writer for data archiving. A router-switch provides fast network connectivity and protection from the Internet. A keyboard-video-mouse sharing device shares the desktop input and output amongst all the machines and provides a convenient selector button to choose a machine.
Baby-B requires you to provide one monitor and some deskspace. We reccommend purchasing an appropriate backup power solution.
